Existing, wide rural roads which interlink villages throughout the country are faced with the increasing issues of slowing traffic down as they approach these ever sprawling conurbations. Many carry large numbers of HGV’s requiring careful consideration from roads engineers to slow the traffic to the desired 30mph without causing delay and frustration to road users.
Faced with this exact situation, specialist contractors – Styleseal Ltd proposed the use of Quicksetts to be applied in a 1 metre wide median strip to visually reduce the width of the road whilst still allowing HGV’s to cross over or straddle the centre line when necessary.
Styleseal Ltd carried out the installation in April 2017 under a strict two week road closure during which time other works coinciding with a new housing development took place. The chamfered edges of the Quicksetts ensure that should a wide vehicle need to traverse the setts, easy, smooth passage is permitted whilst visually the road has been narrowed and a barrier placed in-between the traffic discouraging overtaking on this 30mph straight road. Aesthetically the Quicksetts have an agreeable historic appearance and look as if they have been there for years.
Styleseal Ltd’s Technical Director Stephen Ward stated “We have been really impressed with Jobling Purser and their Quicksetts material. Everything from the product training through to delivery of materials has been excellent. The client is really impressed with our finished work and having installed all 362m² in just 10 days, we would definitely agree with Jobling Purser’s claim – Quick Setts.”
